Final Cut Pro – Imagine Life

FINAL CUT PRO

After opening Final Cut Pro, I was asked to choose an Easy Setup, a collection of settings that would suit what I wanted to capture and edit, and a scratch disk, the hard disk where I’ll store my media files.

Editing in the timeline

The audio sync was achieved by making a clap noise just before we began filming each scene. This would show up on the audio levels and we could then align the sound and to the video.

Once the boom box audio was synced, the original video audio from the camera was deleted. The reason for using the boom was so that the noise was more defined and heard, rather than the camera microphone sounded to distant away.

Cropping video

I made cuts using the Razor Blade tool, and made cuts during playback by pressing (B). I also drag either end of the clip to shorten and crop the scene.

Performing colour correction

Color correction filters are used in a number of ways. I used them to change a mood by making an object sepia colored, In addition, these filters are be used to fix a problem with contrast, color, gamma, or brightness.

Adding titles

When I was creating a title clip for a sequence, I created a basic title, including the font, size, alignment, and more advanced options such as automatic kerning. Once I created the title clip, I add it the same way you would edit any clip into your sequence.

Evaluation Of Imagine Life with No Imagination.

Evaluation

Life without Imagination was our film title, it about a man who see’s himself as a smart clean human being when in reality he is a scruffy unhygienic mess of a person. The film in my opinion was hard to portray but I think myself and the team done a good job at doing this.

We decided the best way to do get across the two sides of this character was to use mirror shots. In the mirror he was a prince in reality he was not.

We showed our film to the class for feedback, we took this feedback in and changed some of the elements. Some of the feedback showed they didn’t like the music or didn’t quite understand some scenes. We used this critique and edited the film again, this time we applied those changes and felt like the film was more understandable.

Ident Process

After all my research for my tv ident, I began to start designing. Firstly i opened up illustrator and designed my logo.

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 10.16.41

I then opened up After Effects and made a new composition.

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 09.50.11

I then went to Layer> new>solid to create my circles for my ident. I chose my colours and pressed okay.

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 09.51.00 Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 09.51.11 Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 09.51.34

I used the eclipse tool to then turn the box into a perfect circle.

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 09.52.10

i repeated this process over and over making the circles different sizes and colours. I wanted the circles to move simultaneously so to do this I had to input an expression. An example of this expression was “wiggle(0.5,20)”. That expressions judges how many times per second (0.5) the shape is scaled to a random number between 1 & 20.

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 09.57.03

I carried out the same process on creating circles in different colours and sizes.

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 09.59.11 Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 09.59.02

I used a background picture of worn paper

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 10.03.06

After i made all the circles I wanted for my ident I then placed them all in the order I wanted them. I used the multiply button so they would turn slightly transparent.

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 09.59.38

I added music to my ident then used the tones and sounds from the track to sync with the movement of the circles.

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 11.26.01

I used a camera on my ident and made it 3D, I used the XY&Z axis to position the circles in a 3d form.

Screen shot 2013-06-14 at 10.01.51=

I added zooms and changed position of the camera so the ident took full effect.

To finish off my final ident i put a rotation on the logo so it spins around.

TV idents

For this assignment i have been told to produce a set of TV idents. i will have to think of a new tv channel, make a logo and produce a short visual. To start this assignment i will begin with researching some TV idents that have been aired or are still airing now.

E4.

E4 is a channel broadcasted in the UK and Northern Ireland, it is part of the channel 4 family. The channel first appeared about 11 years ago in 2001, and I personally think the channel is aimed at young teenagers and adults, aged around 15-30 years old. E4 is an Entertainment and comedy channel, with the ‘E’ standing for Entertainment which relates to the programs they broadcast. They broadcast popular shows such as the likes of the world famous F.r.i.e.n.d.s series and other US shows such as Scrubs, and One tree hill and Small Ville. The british programs they broadcast such as Misfits, Holly-oaks and Skins are also viewers favorites. The E4 logo is purple and White and is bold and creative and also stands out to attract an audience. It isnot a serious logo but more of a playful edge. I think this defines the channel in one image. Here is 2 images of 2 different tv idents they have created while the voice over man lists the forthcoming programs.

BBC THREE

BBC Three is a television network from the BBC broadcasting family via. The channel’s target audience includes those in the 16–34 year old age group, and has the purpose of providing “innovative” content to younger audiences, focusing on new talent and new technologies. The channel is on-air from 19:00 to around 05:00 each night, in order to share Terrestrial television bandwidth with the CBBC Channel. Unlike its commercial rivals, 90% of BBC Three’s output is from the United Kingdom and other European union countries. 80% is original, covering all genres, from current affairs, to drama, to comedy to animation. BBC Three has a unique 60 seconds format for its news bulletins. This was adopted so that operation of the channel could be completely automated, without the complication of dealing with variable length live news broadcasts.

Channel Outline Document.

Channel Name: The Video Store (logo popcorn with the video store wrote on box)

My Television Channel is a 24-hour Film channel that views only the best and most high requested films.  The channel will be aired 24 hours a day and the channel target audience will be family, and appeal to everyone. The viewers must press the red button on their remotes to chose from the available listings. Once they have selected what movie they would like to see the most, a percentage chart will be displayed showcasing what movie for that time of the day is in the lead for broadcasting. Movie age ratings will be suitable for that time of day. My channel is open to all ages of people, this is managed by the time of day and the audience age. For example.

Monday- Friday 6am-8:30am Infants and Children (Cert-U)

Early morning movies will be based at infants and young children. Movies will include those and similar too: Toy Story, Peppa Pig, Disney Movies and other cartoon animated movies.

Monday-Friday 8:45-4:45pm Elderly and History (Cert-U/PG)

During the day adults and children should be at work or in school so between these hours my channel will be based around the elderly and more educational history movies. Movies shown will be modern takes on old book such as Pride and Prejudice and Casablanca. Original movies will also  be shown such as 1950’s Father of the Bride and Original Doris Day and Marilyn Monroe. This genre of film will finish at 4:45pm in time for the evening showings.

5pm-9pm Early Evening Family, young adults (Cert U/PG/12A)
This time slot will be viewable for all families, teenagers and everyone else. Perfect timing for after dinner or the hours running up to the children’s bedtime. Movies shown at this time would be the likes of Cheaper by the Dozen, Harry Potter, Disney (non animated).

9pm- 5am Adult humor/content (Cert 15/18/R)

Movies shown at this time will be adult humor and content based. Parents can filter the channel by calling up the customer Services and stop viewing of the channel after certain hours. Movies on this channel will be those like and similar too: American Pie, The Hangover, The Inbetweeners Movie and other genres such as Horror showing movies like, The grudge, The Orphan, The Ring and Paranormal Activity.

5am-6am will be an off air hour playing classic songs from well known movies. Videos to these tracks will not be shown, clips of all movies offered on this channel will slideshow faintly in the background. Then at 6am the viewers choice of children’s movie will be show.

The same time table applies for Weekends.

My channel Works by the viewer pressing the red button and choosing between 6 movies, to do this all they have to do is press the number corresponding with the movie title. The vote will be taken once and the most voted movie will be shown, followed by the second most voted, etc, until that time slot of genre is over. Voting is Free and Parental Control is available.

A horror movie ident i really like is film 4 horror fest. The ident shows a convayer belt with sharp edged and horror related items such as scissors knives and needles getting packed into a box. then at the end of the convayer belt a bloody styled stamp marks the box with Frightfest, the box is beginning to bleed. Although it is only a short ident i think it is really effective.

Logo Research.

As my channel “The Video Store” is a movie channel i thought i should incorporate the typical movie items such as popcorn, film roles, tickets and flashly lights. I have researched these items to inspire my idea of a logo, here is what i have found:

Logo Develpment

photo
Here are some logos i found online, by drawing these out it has helped to decide what i want for my own logo. I brainstormed things to do with cinemas and movies to try and come up with a name. Although the name of my channel is simple, it is easy to remember and is more about the quality of the channel than the branding.

Monday 28th Jan 13.
I have changed my mind about the branding and decided to look at info-graphics. I researched this topic and came across a lot of really unique and interesting shapes and colors. I have decided to use a circle shape for my ident, this will be portrayed in different colors and movements. Here are some images i found to inspire my decision

nonsense-infographics nonsense_infographics_01 nonsense_infographics_02 nonsense_infographics_03

As you can see, there are a lot of circular shapes. I have created an ident that has multicoloured circles changing in size in a random order. The ident is modern, unique and catchy.

Production.

When i finalised my idea for my ident, i opened up Abode After Effects, opened up a new composition and began from scratch.

Here is my TV iDent for my TV channel, Spectrum.

Promotional Design

Here are some Links followed by my own views and professional reviews to some examples of promotional design. I have researched online and found some really impressive designs and techniques to promote branding and advertise yourself well.

1) El Camino Food Truck.
http://www.behance.net/gallery/EL-CAMINO-FOODTRUCK/6891683

El Camino Foodtruck is our answer to Monterrey’s gastronomic needs. Its menu caters for all tastes, ranging from vegetarian options to delicious Texas-style hamburgers and sandwiches. The spanish/english combination in its name is a play with words which aims to communicate these flavors.

For this project we developed and exhaustive graphic language  which is constantly growing. The aim is to make the Foodtruck very recognisable through its easily identifiable graphic style. Americana and biker tattoos are two strong influences, expressing the truck’s rough and Texan personality in an appealing way. El Camino Foodtruck is a tribute to an artisanal approach, from the meticulous preparation of the food it serves to the creation and implementation of its visual language that was conceived in pencil and paper and later hand drawn directly on the truck.

f2cb83251d3944caed4d723bf5e171c8 d692ba6c5faec00132850ca424283e00 b6de191f5e2b60c674c3cb08a8bd48f7 b4e28ed83a17f5a2c335564de95ee0d1 79aa3bfe2e5a33b7486058616d84091e 9e261d33082c292b805e85dfd115aba5 2c34dcd99ee78ff3a225445269dff5c2

I really like how this design is so simple and genius yet so effective. It serves great food, professional and also friendly. The promotional design is very well done because its on the truck they are basically driving round on their own terms advertising where ever they please. The design is hand drawn then transfered over to the truck. This is one of my favorite company branding so far.

2) Gelatalia

http://www.behance.net/gallery/Gelatalia/6904187

Gelatalia is an Italian Ice Cream Company. It has combined the leaning tower of Pisa and Scoops of ice cream to achieve the over all logo. You can imediently recognise the logo is Italian, and the pursose is to serve ice cream. i really like this logo because it looks great on many materials which is a must when advertising. The logo is welcoming and fun.

3). Fils de fer – Souvenir 14 18

Brush lettering for Fils de fer – Souvenir 14 18.
I thought this promtional design was quite special because of the amount of hand drawn work that has gone in to produce this. Digital work can easily be deleted or corrected or edited if you change your mind. I love the creativity and the skill that this brand uses. The use the logo to its full potential and i think the over all look and feel for the brand is amazing! Really cool and inviting. Here are some images:

4). The Dapper Dog
http://www.behance.net/gallery/The-Dapper-Dog/5916499

The Dapper Dog is a brand of dog grooming products inspired by the most enthusiastic of dog owners. This line is imagined to bridge the gap between the mainstream market and higher end, luxury brands. In contrast to the more serious and sophisticated appearance of the products are the names and product descriptions. The brand features products such as “The Usual” all purpose shampoo, the “Lookin’ Sharp” collar & leash set, and “Swanky Stuff” pomade, for all those pompadour pooches.
Exotic scents and flavors, such as the “Mint Julep” pomade ensure that pet owners will be intrigued and invested in a retail environment, encouraging exploration throughout the various brand’s products.

Most dogs live to chase tail and feel the wind in their fur. Others are more concerned with how well their collar matches their coat. Some dogs, however, enjoy all of the qualities that life has to offer. These dogs aren’t afraid to get their paws dirty, and then after a hard day’s work enjoy a nice hot oatmeal bath. They look forward to an appointment at the groomer as much as a day on the lake. These dogs are Dapper Dogs. Tough yet refined, playful but sophisticated. Fetch is a game best played with a freshly conditioned coat, so take your leash off and let your tongue hang out. Dapper Dogs play hard, but they do it in style.

5). Just In Case
http://blog.karachicorner.com/2013/01/corporate-identity-branding-logo-design/

Just in Case is an End-Of-The-World Survival Kit consisting of water, biscuits, a knife, matches and other gimmick type items such as a note pad and pencil. I like this brand because its more of a road-trip/traveling kit rather and can be used seriously even though the name is jokey. I like the fact the running theme is all yellow. Its a nice bright colour and really effective for the name of the brand. The graphics are simple and silhouette like.  Here are some photos.
